COUNTER KNIFE SURVIVAL WORKSHOP
This workshop was held on Saturday 20th June and was attended by 25 students and instructors.  The afternoon was spent exploring specialist methods for dealing with armed attacks as taught to special forces across the UK.  This course was taught by Mark Davies, founder of the Tactical Edge combative system and ITF Taekwon-Do 4th Degree.  As always, this was an excellent course and we look forward to the next one!

An afternoon exploring specialist methods for dealing with armed attacks as taught to special forces across the UK.  Over 5500 crimes involving knives were reported in just 3 months.  The Metropolitan police recorded 1580 offences in just ONE MONTH, including 24 murders, 339 woundings and 1134 street robberies.  Bear in mind the vast majority of knife attacks go unreported!

This course is taught by Mark Davies, founder of the Tactical Edge combatives system and ITF Taekwon-Do 4th Degree.  This course is truely "reality based" as Mark has faces armed attacks many times and teaches from personal experience.

JUNIORS SELF DEFENCE WORKSHOP
This workshop was held on Saturday 20th June and was attended by 20 students from the academy.  The course was presented by Mr Mark Davies 4th Deg and covered realistic self-defence against the types of situations commonly faced by young people.  Our students had a great time and learned a lot to help build their confidence should these situations arise.

A training in realistic self defence methods against the types of situations commonly faced by young people.  We'll cover intelligent methods that allow you to protect yourself without ending up in more trouble than the bully or attacker.

Counterstrike 2004

A three hour counterstrike workshop was held on Saturday 6th November 2004 at the Academy.  This course was presented by Mr Mark Davies (4th Deg).  This was a beginners class which was designed to look at various aspects of self-defence, from how to increase awareness, to physically repelling any would-be attackers.

They all arrived, unsure of what to expect, but by the end of the three hours they were all surprised at how easy some of the techniques were and that they could actually perform these techniques.  We hope that this has been of some help to them and that they will never have to use them.

Sul Sa 2003

The Gordon Wallace Blackbelt Academy held a one day Sul Sa (special martial arts techniques) course on Saturday 4th May 2003.  The course was presented by Mr Mark Davies (3rd Deg).  It covered fundamental mid and short stick techniques, striking, locking and throwing techniques, along with weapon retention and recovery.  This was an excellent course, even although we all had sore shins!!

Counterstrike 2002

The Gordon Wallace Blackbelt Academy held it's first Ladies Counterstrike Workshop on Saturday 5th October 2002.  The course was held by Mr Mark Davies (3rd Degree) and Mr Gordon Wallace (6th Degree).  This was a 3 hour beginners class which was designed to look at various aspects of self-defence, from how to keep unwanted callers out of the home, to physically repelling any would-be attackers.

We started off in the home, looking at securing doors, timing devices for lights and talking about never letting people into your home without ID.  We also gave advice on being aware of your surroundings and planning your routes.  We discussed that the best form of self-defence is not to get involved in the first place, but if there is no way out, we showed the best ways to deal with an attack.  The course covered various aspects of self-defence including:

The mind and controlling your fear;  tricks of the trade;  personal security at home / in transit;  avoiding intimidation - empowering yourself;  physical self-defence techniques;  target areas of the human body;  correct striking techniques;  responses to common attacks and working under stress.

By the end of the day, the women, who were quite subdued to begin with, were very confident.  It's amazing what a few hours of practical advice can do for your confidence.  Obviously we hope that nothing will ever happen, but we are glad that if anything does, they will all be capable of fighting back.

Close Quarter Counter Measures is an integral part of the training programme which links the practical applications of Tae Kwon-Do techniques with the mental requirement of using the techniques effectively when under the extreme stress of a possible violent situation or confrontation.  Click here for details.
