6th Academy Awards
Results
Our 6th Annual Academy Awards were held on Friday 20th March 2009 in the Thistle Hotel in Altens, Aberdeen with 193 attending.
Once again, this event was a great success and was a perfect night for Master Wallace to celebrate 20 years of teaching in Aberdeen (1989-2009).
As always, we were overwhelmed by the effort everyone had made with their outfits and we look forward to receiving the photographs
which were taken by Donald Stewart for the 6th year in a row.
We must say thank you to our VIP guests this year for their contribution to our Awards night -
Master Michael Thompson 7th Deg, Mr David McNairn 6th Deg and Mr Mark Boydell 4th Deg.

LIST OF AWARDS

The Most Improved Student Award
Is given to students, who although have not been training very long, have shown great ability and attitude that we consider them to be great prospects for the future.

The Most Promising New Student Award
Is given to students who have stepped up a level in their training throughout the year and as such we have seen a remarkable change in their ability and character.

The Blackbelt Attitude Award
Is given for junior students under 13 years of age. Before each graduation the last merit badge or stripe to be awarded to the student, is that of blackbelt attitude.  Firstly the student must show the correct manner and courtesy in class to his instructor and fellow class mates.  Also the student must have the correct enthusiasm for learning and show the discipline in training. These attributes do not stop being assessed in class, they must extend them to home life and family members and also with schoolwork, colleagues and teachers.  Without this successful assessment the student does not graduate

The Competitor of the Year Award
Is given to the most consistent competitor over the year.  Several factors go into this award. It is not just the amount of gold medals won that matter, but also the level of competition and the size of the divisions that the competitor was involved in.

The Perseverance Award
Is given to students who have shown great determination and will to succeed throughout the year. No real student of martial arts can go anywhere without this quality.  If there is any attribute that a student can take into life it is that of never giving up, no matter how hard or challenging the task in front.

"One of the most important secrets in becoming a leader of Tae Kwon-Do is to overcome every difficulty with Perseverance".
General Choi Hong Hi, 9th Degree.

The Student of the Year Award
Goes to the student who has continuously demonstrated a high standard of technical ability, perseverance, and blackbelt attitude in class and graduation.
