4th ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS
2006

- Special Awards -

The 2006 Annual Academy Awards evening was held on Saturday 3rd March 2007 in the Thistle Hotel in Altens, Aberdeen.

This year, 37 Awards were presented for Most Promising, Most Improved, Blackbelt Attitude, Perseverance, Competitors of the Year, Students of the Year and Dedication & Commitment.

Mr Gordon Wallace, VI Degree celebrated his 30th Anniversary in Tae Kwon-Do on the 1st March this year and this evening was the perfect occasion to acknowledge this milestone.  Mr Wallace was presented with his long service Trophy by Mr David McNairn, VI Degree who surprised him with a speech acknowledging his achievement.  Mr Wallace received a standing ovation from the room and was then surprised by the presentation of a extremely large cake and even a "Best Instructor" Award.  This award was presented by Lauren Kiloh, 6th Kup.  Lauren had felt that Mr Wallace deserved to receive a trophy and saved up for it herself and wrote her own speech which she read out at the ceremony.

The evening was a great success with over 160 people attending.  Once again, everyone was so well turned out and we were so impressed with the effort that was made.

This year saw the introduction of a new award following the sad loss of  one of our students, Ryan Park (age 9) who died in 2006.  In order to continue Ryan's memory and the happiness he brought us Instructors, we, with his dad Roys permission, added another trophy to our awards ceremony.  This award was named the Ryan Park Memorial Award.  The winner of this award was decided by the students from his Kickin class.  The first winner of this award was Jason Main and I am sure that Jason will be proud to have received this trophy.

Jeff Burns from 5th Dimension entertained the young and old with his fantastic magic show this year.  Jeff has performed for us in the past and managed once again, to keep the kids glued to their seats.  Our DJ Craig then entertained the room with a variety of music for all ages, including a group of line dancers showing us how it should be done !!

Our photographer Donald Stewart was on hand to capture photographs of the award winners, along with group shots and candid photos throughout the evening.
