As we now have children as young as 4 at the centre, we've decided to raise funds to provide an interlocking matted floor area for them to train. This would ensure that they have a safe environment in which to train and would also be of benefit to all the students. Mr Wallace decided that it would be a good idea to cycle from Aberdeen to Inverness (a distance of 110 miles approximately) in order to raise some of the funds. Two of the students decided to join him - Stuart Arroyo (4th Kup) and Doug Farquhar (8th Kup). None of them had cycled as far as this before, but they were determined. The support car was manned by Jacqui England 1st Deg, who photographed the run. Click here for a map and photos of their journey. Mr Wallace started off from Aberdeen and met Doug at Kingswells. They then travelled out to Westhill to meet Stuart. They set off a little later than planned due to a small problem with Stuarts bike. His younger brother Christopher had kindly offered to sort his gears for him and Stuart arrived in the morning to collect the bike to find that he had fixed them on without the gear changer. This meant that Stuart had one gear to cycle 110 miles!! They eventually set off around 9.30am and made their first stop in Alford (for coffee and scones). Passing through Lumsden, they then trekked over the Cabrach to Dufftown, through Rothes via Craigellachie and onto Elgin. They made good time and landed in Elgin after 6 hours and 19 minutes. Stuart did extremely well to manage over the Cabrach with one gear and was never very far behind the others. So, now it was time for a nice meal and a good sleep. They set off on Sunday morning at 9.30am to finish the journey and although they were a bit saddle sore, they really worked hard to make good time. After a stop at Brodie for more coffee and scones, they landed at Dunbars Blackbelt Academy, Inverness after just 2 hours 25 minutes. So, the whole distance was travelled in just over 9 hours. Not Bad !! The bikes were then packed onto the support car and an easy run back to Aberdeen. A total of £432.00 was raised. |
