WKA - THE
GATHERING - 4 - Kickboxing Results
Saturday 6th December
Saturday night proved
to be a successful night for our Academy Kickboxers. Mr Andy O'Hare, Mr
Jamie Presly and Dean Sutherland all travelled to Allanton, in Lanarkshire for
this evening event.
Dean Sutherland (10yrs) won the vacant under 35kg Scottish WKA Title fight against Nathan Towns (Clan Kickboxing) fought over 3 x 1.5minute rounds in the boxing ring. It was a tremendous performance that Dean put in, dominating all three of the rounds and we are very proud that Dean has won the Academy's first kickboxing title.
Mr Andy 'Hare fought his first ring contest under Light Contact rules against Chris Dickson from Livingston. Andy won in the third round when the referee stopped the contest.
Jamie Presly in his second full contact contest dominated his long time adversary, Martin Shannon, from IAKSA. He stopped his opponent twice in the first round. Martin did not come out for the second round due to a cut on his eye and Jamie won his event with his first TKO.
We are very proud of our competitors efforts and will be glad to have some time off now before our next seasons campaign.

NOVEMBER
WKN Fight
Night - Kickboxing -
Airport Thistle Hotel
Saturday 15th November
We were contacted 24 hours in advance by by the promoter of the above Fight
Night to say that he had been informed that the proposed card with an
Irish team were all down with flu and could not make it. He asked if
we had any Kickboxing Students who would like to fight Full Contact as he
needed fighters to complete the card. Mr Ronnie Roy and Mr Jamie
Presly jumped at the chance as they were already in training for the WKA
Fight Night on 6th December.
With already a good record in Taekwon-Do and Light Contact Kickboxing Events, this would be their first venture into a boxing ring and under Full Contact Rules
Mr Presly was recovering from the flu but put in a great effort. His first round was great but he slowed in the second and picked up again in the third and was close to call. Unfortunately the decision didn't go his way on this occasion but we are sure he will be fully fit again for next month.
Mr Roy had an outstanding first round with a standing count for the opponent within 40 seconds. He was on great form but sadly dislocated his shoulder just before the end of the first round. This was a disappointing end to a potentially great fight. Mr Roy will now be unable to fight at the WKA Fight Night, but Mr Andy O'Hare has volunteered, if accepted, to step into the breach.
