THE ACADEMY

Master Wallace opened his first school in Montrose 1984 in and after moving to Aberdeen in 1989, opened the Aberdeen School of Taekwon-Do.  The school developed over the years and in September 2003, moved into it's first full-time premises in Justice Mill Lane in Aberdeen.  This became known as the Gordon Wallace Blackbelt Academy and was a full-time base for 5 years.  In 2008, the premises was sold and we were forced to look for a new venue.  This took a year of searching and teaching classes in various sports centres until we found our new permanent full-time premises in South Esplanade West, Aberdeen.  We currently have a membership of over 200 students, with ages ranging from 4 years to 70 plus.  

At the academy, we teach Traditional ITF Tae Kwon-do as taught by Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi 9th degree (1918-2002), the founder of Tae Kwon-Do and Korean Kickboxing which has been developed from the sports side of Taekwon-Do.  Our academy is affiliated on a national level to ITF Scotland, and on a global scale, to the ITF (International Tae Kwon-Do Federation).

The philosophy of Taekwon-Do can be summed up by the last two phrases in the ITF Student Oath:

I shall be a champion of justice and freedom.
I shall build a better and peaceful world.
By practicing Taekwon-Do and living according to its fundamental values, we will become good citizens and be able to create a better world.

Age Specific Classes

All programmes taught at the academy are age specific.  Classes are available as detailed below.

• 4-6 yrs - Little Ninjas

• 7-9 yrs - Kickin' Kids

• 10-15 yrs - Junior Tae Kwon-Do

• 16 yrs plus - Adult Tae Kwon-Do (Beginners Programme) White - Green Belt

• 16 yrs plus - Adult Tae Kwon-Do (Advanced Programme) Blue - Black Belt

• Blackbelt only training

• Non-contact Kickboxing & Kettlebells are also available for ages 16 years and over.

• Open Training is provided on Sunday afternoons (2:00-3:30pm).  These sessions provide additional time for students who may have missed a class, would like to practice what they have learned during the week, use the facilities for stretching, fitness training etc, or simply practice their syllabus requirements.  These sessions are not instructor led, but an instructor is always there to supervise and provide any assistance required.  All children must be supervised.
