THE ACADEMY

The Gordon Wallace Blackbelt Academy was founded in August 1989.  The current membership to date is 190 students, with ages ranging from 4 years to 50 plus.  We teach Traditional ITF Tae Kwon-do as taught by Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi 9th degree (1918-2002), the founder of Tae Kwon-Do.  

The academy is affiliated on a national level to the UKTF (United Kingdom Tae Kwon-Do Federation), and on a global scale, the UKTF is affiliated to the ITF (International Tae Kwon-Do Federation).

Our Academy Gym boasts top of the range training facilities such as fully matted floor to allow a safe environment for all practitioners (especially children who are prone to falling), free standing bags and punch bags allow students to practice independently during the open sessions available to members.   TV and Video/DVD are also available for viewing the varied selection of pre-recorded Tae Kwon-Do events.  We are convinced that we have one of the top martial arts premises in the North East.

                   

           

Age Specific Classes

All programmes taught at the academy are age specific.  Classes are available as detailed below.

  • Fitness Kickboxing Circuits are also available for ages 16 years and over.

  • Open Training is provided on Sunday afternoons (3:00-4:00pm).  These sessions provide additional time for students who may have missed a class, would like to practice what they have learned during the week, use the facilities for stretching, fitness training etc, or simply practice their syllabus requirements.  These sessions are not instructor led, but an instructor is always there to supervise and provide any assistance required.  All children must be supervised.

Equipment & Facilities

Separate male and female changing rooms and toilets are provided along with a seating area for spectators and parents.  Tea and coffee facilities are also available.

  • Power-Test Holder with a vast range of child and adult Breaker Boards

  • Free-Standing Pads

  • Punch Bags

  • Free Weights

  • Focus Pads & Kick Shields

  • Skipping ropes & Resistance Bands

           

Our shop also stocks a range of Sparring Equipment, Training Aids, Clothing, Shoes, Toys and Gifts.  
Our own academy T-shirts, Fleeces, Sweatshirts and Jackets are also available.
